Job Descriptions 

 

We operate a relatively small kennel however the operating tempo is high, when its not we make the most of the down time.  We are a family run operation, our dogs are our lifestyle.

Ideal candidate is hard working, proactive with good communication skills and a passion for animals and the outdoors.  Is flexible and has a casual demeanor about them. We will be living and working in close proximity for extended periods.

Lead Guide

 

This is a full time seasonal position; June – August with option to extend into September.

Responsibilities:

  • Day to day management of dogs both in a kennel environment and on the mountain in a diverse range of conditions.  Including; caring for, cleaning, feeding, watering, and exercising dogs of all ages.
  • Lead tours as a Guide; providing safety, guiding of tours, instructing guests and act in a mentoring role while on the trail.
  • Learn about the region, venue, dog breeds and sport so that it can be effectively communicated to guests.
  • Will be required to support tours as a Guide for tours ranging from 1 hours duration to multi night trips.
  • Oversee all pre and post trip inspections which will also involve the maintenance of and cleaning of equipment.
  • Provide logistical coordination and support to tours including; assisting with catering, hauling of equipment, operating a skidoo, grooming and clearing trails.
  • Coordinate guest administration including; briefing, bookings and processing guests for tours.
  • Support other tasks as they arise including; movie / Tv support, promotional activities, training events etc.
  • Training dogs in the following areas: teaching social and sled dog life skills, trail etiquette and camping, specialist role skills, conditioning, rehabilitation programs, one on one training.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license (international licenses are acceptable as long as they are legally recognized) and confident to drive a right hand drive vehicle on the left side of the road.
  • Can drive a vehicle with trailer.
  • Must successfully pass pre employment drug screening.
  • Must hold a minimum of a St Johns Level 1 first Aid certificate and remain current for duration of employment.
  • Must have two seasons of previous sleddog guiding experience in the Northern Hemisphere.
  • Can operate a skidoo and groomer.
  • Physically fit to work in adverse mountain conditions, for long periods conducting strenuous activities.
  • Successfully complete induction training conducted by UnderDog.
  • Pre Hospital Emergency Care and Avalanche Awareness qualifications may be required, these will be arranged and covered by UnderDog if necessary.

 

Additional Information:

  • This is a live in position; accommodation and meals provided. (Full Time position only)
  • Six days a week and off day may shift to suit the operating tempo.
  • You will have the opportunity to explore the region and race a team in local recreational races.
  • We do not provide flights for overseas candidates.
  • Paid position, bonus on completion of season.

Guide

 

This is a part time seasonal position; June – August.

  • Performs all pre and post trip inspections which will also involve the maintenance of and cleaning of equipment.

  • Assists with guest administration including; briefing, bookings and processing guests for tours.
  • Support other tasks as they arise including; movie / Tv support, promotional activities, training events etc.

Additional Information:

  • This is not a live in position.  However meals and accommodation will be provided as required to support particular tours and events.
  • Four days a week (for the month of July only) and off day may shift to suit the operating tempo. Two days a week for the month of August.
  • We do not provide flights for overseas candidates.
